Whats The Best Duvet Filling? Wool, Microfibre, Down, Feather

There are many options of duvet filling available to buy. We will run through some of the options and the pros and cons of each type.

Microfibre

Pros: Affordable, hypoallergenic, durable, and easy to care for.

Cons: May not be as warm or soft as down or feathers. Made from plastics and so harmful to the environment at end of life.

Down

Pros: Lightweight, soft, warm, and breathable.

Cons: Can be expensive, requires special care, and may cause allergies for some.

Feather

Pros: Warm, soft, and affordable compared to down.

Cons: Can be heavier than down and may cause allergies for some.

So which duvet filling is best?

It depends what your criteria are. We think natural is always the best option. Overall if you suffer from allergies, care for the planet and want a sustainably sourced product we would recommend a British wool duvet.

Where is it made?

A locally manufactured duvet reduces transport emissions. It also guarantees worker rights if made in the UK (high relative worker pay & rights).

The outer casing material

Look for 100% cotton for the outer casing. It is no good purchasing a duvet with a natural filling only to have a synthetic outer cover.

Guarantee?

Does the duvet have a guarantee? This is a sign of a good quality product.
